Imagine Research, Inc. develops a unique, modular sound recognition software system (MediaMined™) capable of understanding the acoustic content of audio, video, and real-time streams. Example applications include identifying real-world sounds, music instruments, sound effects, and environmental sounds. MediaMined™ listens to an audio signal and understands what it is listening to – exactly as human listeners can identify and classify sounds.

MediaMined is simple: audio in , metadata out. MediaMined hears sounds and describes them in metadata (XML, JSON, XMP, etc). It learns too - and gets smarter every day. We will release additional sound descriptions as MediaMined learns new sounds and concepts. In the future, we will add additional levels of detail (more sound classes and tags) , description of what sound classes are in a file (90% Speech, 20% Music, 10% Applause), and time-based annotation of audio events (gun shot at 0:10).
